# Onboard with the Official App

> Scan a device's QR, add it, and send Wi-Fi credentials in AP mode using the official Hyperwisor app.

This is the primary onboarding flow for users with the **official Hyperwisor
app**. It has two phases: add the device by scanning its QR, then give it your
Wi-Fi credentials while it's in setup (AP) mode.

## Prerequisites

* The **official Hyperwisor app** installed and signed in
* The device powered on, with its [QR code](/onboarding/qr-code) affixed
* Your Wi-Fi network name and password (2.4 GHz — see the note below)

## Phase 1 — Add the device

<Steps>
  <Step title="Scan the QR code">
    In the app, scan the QR code on the device. The app reads the product info
    encoded in it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the device">
    Confirm to add the device. It now appears in your **device list**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Phase 2 — Send Wi-Fi credentials

The device needs your Wi-Fi to get online. You enter the credentials in the app,
but you must hand them to the device while connected to **its** setup network.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Setup Device">
    Open the device, go to the **Quick Actions** section, and tap **Setup
    Device**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your Wi-Fi">
    Enter your Wi-Fi **name (SSID)** and **password**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect to the device's AP — before sending">
    This step is essential. Put the device into **AP (setup) mode** — power it on
    into setup, or use its mode switch — then connect your **phone's Wi-Fi** to
    the device's network:

    |                   |                        |
    | ----------------- | ---------------------- |
    | Device Wi-Fi (AP) | `NIKOLAINDUSTRY_Setup` |
    | Password          | `0123456789`           |

    <Warning>
      Connect to `NIKOLAINDUSTRY_Setup` **before** you tap Send Config. The app
      delivers the credentials to the device over this network — if your phone
      isn't on it, the device never receives them.
    </Warning>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send the config">
    Tap **Send Config**. The app prompts for success, and the device attempts to
    join your Wi-Fi network with the credentials you provided.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Result

* **Success** — if the credentials are correct (and the network is 2.4 GHz), the
  device connects and comes online in your device list.
* **Failure** — if it can't connect, the device falls back to **AP mode** again.
  Re-check the Wi-Fi name/password and repeat Phase 2.

<Warning>
  **Use a 2.4 GHz network.** The device's Wi-Fi radio operates on **2.4 GHz only**.
  Make sure your router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz band and that you give the device
  2.4 GHz credentials. A 5 GHz-only network (or a 5 GHz SSID) will not connect —
  this is the most common cause of a failed setup.
